This episode is a classic radio discussion between James Baldwin and R.H. Darden on the plight of Black Americans broadcast on April 1, 1968.

R.H. Darden was a conservative (this becomes VERY plain about 5 minutes into the interview). It’s incredible how things never change. And the stakes were so much higher back then. It really makes me sick. This interview basically boils down to, “Why the fuck are you darkies complaining so much?” Sound familiar? Of course it does, because nothing has ever changed in hundreds and hundreds of years.

You know what else makes me sick? Thomas Sowell wouldn’t have said a damn thing. Filth.

And to entrench this further in context, this interview happened 3 days before Martin Luther King was assassinated.

Murder suspect George Zimmerman’s defense team wants these “inflammatory terms” banned from the opening statements of his trial. Jury selection begins on Monday.

“Some of these terms are disparaging, inappropriate, and if used in trial would serve only to unfairly prejudice the jury by eliciting unfounded connotations and unfair emotional responses,” defense attorney Mark O’Mara wrote in a motion to the court.

Prosecutors say Zimmerman, a volunteer crime watchman in his Sanford, Fla., neighborhood, profiled, pursued and fatally shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February 2012. Zimmerman, a licensed gun carrier and part-time criminal justice student, says he fired in self-defense after being attacked and beaten.

Zimmerman also wants to ban certain phrases from opening arguments:

“He got out of the car after the police (or dispatcher) told him not to.”

“He confronted Trayvon Martin.”

Motions seeking to limit evidence in a trial is not uncommon, but they seldom target phrases or characterizations.

It doesn’t sound like they’re confident about the verdict. They basically want to ban any mention of the incident that put George Zimmerman in that courtroom.

Would it have been more racist to have the main characters in ethnic Disney movies with more accurate regional accents? Like what if Mulan had a Chinese accent? What if Aladdin had a stereotypical “Qwiki Mart” accent?

Or is it more racist that they have sanitized, and misappropriated specific cultures with Anglo-phied interpretations of other ethnicities?
